INGSA Horizons podcast hosts conversations on the science informing smart policy

Six podcasts available now from the International Network for Government Science Advice (INGSA) explore the critical space between scientific evidence and policy decisions on topics such as cities, COVID-19, and societal transformation.

Hosted by Kristiann Allen and Naomi Simon-Kumar, the podcast brings together people working at the intersections between science, society and policy. The first series – which is available now – includes the best interviews from INGSA Horizon video series and from the INGSA2021 Conference in Montreal.

“So much of our day-to-day life lies at the intersection between science, society, and the policy choices made by our governments – whether it’s adapting to new technologies, how we navigate environmental change, public health responses to the pandemic, or transforming our systems to be more resilient to future challenges. And as our world becomes more complex and interconnected, so too do the debates we need to have to determine effective, socially-licenced, and smart solutions. The INGSA Horizons Podcast will be bringing together the people at the forefront of these debates, providing great conversations that are accessible to everyone.”

Naomi Simon-Kumar, co-host of the INGSA Horizons Podcast.

Episodes focus on topics such as paradigm shifts in knowledge production models and the science-policy-society relationship, and balancing ‘facts’ and ‘values’ in policy-making. Interviewees also provide an insight into science-policy advice in given contexts, such as managing COVID-19 in South Africa, or implementing practical solutions for sustainable development in the world’s cities.

Seven episodes are available now:

A second series will be released later in 2022.

INGSA was formed following the first global conference on science advice to governments co-organised by our predecessor organization, the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 2014, in Auckland, New Zealand.
