Si Prof. GONG mao ang dayon nga Past-Presidente sa World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Direktor sa Chinese Institute of the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies, ug Chairman sa Academic Committee sa Nankai University. Niadtong 1986, nakakuha siya og Doctor degree alang sa Technical Science gikan sa Technical University of Graz, Austria. Miapil siya sa Tsinghua University niadtong 1987, diin nahimo siyang Dean sa Electronic Engineering Department, Direktor sa Chinese National Research Center alang sa Information Science and Technology sa Tsinghua. Gikan sa 1999-2006 siya ang bise presidente sa Tsinghua University. Gikan sa 2006-2011 siya ang Presidente sa Tianjin University, unya ang Presidente sa Nankai University gikan sa 2011 hangtod 2018.
Nakuha ni Prof. GONG ang Chinese National Award para sa Technical Inventions ug para sa Teaching Excellency, ingon man ang uban pang mga ganti gikan sa Chinese ug International nga mga organisasyon.
