Science Seminar held in Lusaka, Zambia
<p>The ICSU Regional Office for Africa (ROA), in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education of the Republic of Zambia and the Mulungushi University, organised a 1-day Science Seminar in Lusaka, Zambia, on 15 March 2017. The Seminar was officially opened by the Honourable Minister of Higher Education, Prof Nkandu Luo.</p>

Scientific and technological community delivers statement at United Nations on Oceans

Call for pre-proposals: Advancing the implementation of Sustainable Development Goal 11 on cities in Africa
<p>As part of the 5-year “Leading Integrated Research for Agenda 2030 in Africa” programme, the International Council for Science (ICSU), in partnership with the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) will support 10 collaborative research projects across Africa (to the value of up to 90,000 Euro each over two years) that will advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 (sustainable cities and communities) in Africa.</p>

NZ Government thanks IRDR and CODATA groups for their help following 2016 Kaikoura earthquake
<p>New Zealand was hit by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake in Kaikoura in November 2016, and the government has expressed thanks to IRDR and CODATA for their timely and free provision of satellite data that helped with damage and loss estimation following the disaster.</p>

Professor Rajib Shaw to step down as IRDR Executive Director
<p>Professor Rajib Shaw will step down as Executive Director of the <a href="https://www.icsu.org/what-we-do/research-programmes/thematic-organizations/integrated-research-on-disaster-risk-irdr">Integrated Research on Disaster Risk</a> (IRDR) programme based in at the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI) at the end of March due to unforeseen personal circumstances.</p>

International Council for Science, GenderInSITE and the International Social Science Council join forces towards applying a gender lens to international scientific research production and coordination
<p>On the occasion of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, <a href="https://genderinsite.net">GenderInSITE</a> organized a workshop with the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the <a href="http://www.worldsocialscience.org">International Social Science Council</a> (ISSC) at the UNESCO ICTP Campus (7-8 February 2017). The workshop aimed to discuss ways to develop a gender-lens for large international scientific research production and coordination initiatives within the context of new modalities for producing and coordinating scientific research.</p>

ICSU Unions receive award to launch multi-year initiatives in science outreach and education
<p>As part of ICSU’s response to the 2014 External Review, the Council in 2016 relaunched its <a href="https://www.icsu.org/what-we-do/funding-programmes/icsu-grants-programme">grants programme</a> to foster collaborative science among scientific Unions and for Unions to spearhead high level international initiatives.</p>
