GSDR report launches in France – High level event and workshop co-organized by ICSU, UNDESA, IDDRI and IRD

<p>The <a href="https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/globalsdreport/2016">2016 Global Sustainable Development Report</a> (GSDR) was launched in France today at a high-level event at the French Foreign Ministry preceded by a one-day workshop at university Sciences Po. The aim of the events was to engage the francophone scientific community towards the next edition to be published in 2019.</p>

<p>In October 2016, 40,000+ people will meet in Quito, Ecuador for the largest cities summit in United Nations history – <a href="http://habitat3.org">Habitat III</a>. ICSU is now accepting nominations for Early Career Scientists to participate in the summit.</p>

ICSU hosts expert group meeting on health within the new urban agenda

<p>Many of the drivers of ill health lie outside of the health sector. There is a major public health concern for cities now and in the future as the interactions of global climate change, urban heat islands, air pollution, and other drivers will place increasing health burdens on cities. The United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development – <a href="http://habitat3.org">Habitat III</a> – will be a defining moment for the future of cities.</p>

ICSU CFRS welcomes acquittal of Heinz Richter

<p>The Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in the conduct of Science (CFRS) of the International Council for Science (ICSU) is pleased to see the complete acquittal of Professor Heinz Richter, a historian and scholar of Greek history, who was arrested and tried under a new Greek “racism” law for his depiction of Greek resistance during WWII.</p>
