Call for nominations: Scientific Committee for Health and Wellbeing in the Changing Urban Environment: a Systems Analysis Approach

The Programme’s co-sponsors are now inviting nominations for individuals to serve on this Committee. With the replacement of about a third of the current membership, 6-8 new members are being sought. New SC Members will be appointed jointly by the Co-Sponsors’ organizations, with the final decision on the committee membership to be made by the ICSU Executive Board in April 2016

7th World Science Forum in Budapest adopts declaration

ICSU, along with the <a href="http://en.unesco.org">United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization</a> (UNESCO) and the <a href="http://mta.hu/english">Hungarian Academy of Sciences</a>, was a co-organizer of the 7th <a href="http://www.sciforum.hu">World Science Forum</a> held from 4th to 7th November 2015 in Budapest. At the conclusion of the conference, a six-point declaration was adopted.

Science International to agree international accord on open data

Science International is a new coalition of the major international science bodies – ICSU, the <a href="http://www.interacademies.org">InterAcademy Partnership</a> (IAP), <a href="https://twas.org">The World Academy of Sciences</a> (TWAS), and the <a href="http://www.worldsocialscience.org">International Social Science Council</a> (ISSC) – to bring its members’ combined international representation and credibility to act as a single global voice for science in the international policy arena. At its first meeting, to be held from 7-9 December in Pretoria, South Africa, the participating institutions will discuss the topic of big data/open data.

Call for expressions of interest: Modeling urban health and wellbeing – communicating results for policy and action

Expressions of interest are thought for this workshop that aims at bridging this information gap by enabling communication and dialogue between modelers and policy/decision makers in the field of urban health. The workshop will take place on 28-29 April 2016 in Xiamen, China.

New Scientific Committee and Chair appointed for ICSU World Data System

The ICSU Executive Board approved the new membership at its April session. The committee will be chaired by Sandy Harrison, Professor of Palaeoclimates and Biogeochemical Cycles.

New members of the Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in the conduct of Science announced

At its April session, the ICSU Executive Board approved the new members of the ICSU Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in the conduct of Science (CFRS). The committee will continue to be chaired by Leiv K. Sydnes of the University of Bergen, Norway, and the new members will take office from 1 October 2015.

Jenny Baeseman appointed SCAR Executive Director

Dr Jenny Baeseman has just been hired as the new Executive Director of the <a href="http://www.scar.org">Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research</a> (SCAR). Baeseman has been the Executive Director of the <a href="http://www.climate-cryosphere.org">WCRP Climate and Cryosphere</a> (CliC) project since 2012 and previous to that was the Founding Director of the <a href="https://www.apecs.is">Association of Polar Early Career Scientists</a> (APECS).

Call for Applications: The SCOSTEP Visiting Scholar (SVS) program

Applications are invited to the SCOSTEP Visiting Scholar (SVS) program, a new capacity building activity of SCOSTEP (the <a href="https://www.icsu.org/what-we-do/research-programmes/thematic-organizations/scientific-committee-on-solar-terrestrial-physics-scostep">Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics</a>). The objective of the SVS program is to provide training to young scientists and graduate students from developing countries in well-established solar terrestrial physics laboratories, for periods of between one and three months.
