10 talking points on scientific publishing: From Plan S to industry disruption – what’s in store for open science?

<p>Back in January 2019, we launched a series of interviews about scientific publishing and open access. The debate was sparked by the publication in September 2018 of ‘Plan S’ – the European Commission initiative to ensure that from 1 January 2020, all scientific publications reporting on the results of publicly funded research are immediately available in Open Access. The ISC’s Lizzie Sayer has collated some of the most interesting talking points about this topical subject.</p>

Funding Science for Sustainability

<p>With just over 10 years to go to achieve the 17 ambitious goals of the UN’s 2030 Agenda, more than 80 science funders, representing international development aid agencies, private foundations and national research councils have called for greater collaboration among science funders and the research community to address the world’s most pressing challenges, as exemplified by the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).</p> <p> </p>

5th African Future Earth Committee Meeting (AFEC)

<p>The fifth meeting of the African Future Earth Committee (AFEC) took place on 16 and 17 July 2019 and was attended by the newly composed committee as well as representative of the Global Future Earth Secretariat, Future Earth Regional Office for Southern Africa (FEROSA), the National Research Foundation of South Africa (host of FEROSA) and the Government of South Africa through the Department of Science and Innovation (DSI).</p>

The ISC at the UN High Level Political Forum 2019

<p>The High-level Political Forum is the United Nations’ central platform for follow-up and review of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals. The ISC has a central role in this platform as a co-convenor of the Scientific and Technological Community Major Group.</p>

Dr Manuel Limonta, representing ISC ROLAC, visited the city of Ambato. Dr Manuel Caizanbanda, Ambato’s Prefect, received Dr Limonta, and joined him on various meetings.
