CFRS concerned by mounting pressures on academic freedom

Concerned that academic freedom is increasingly being encroached upon by political, religious and commercial pressures, the ICSU Committee on Freedom and Responsibility in the conduct of Science (CFRS) reached out to ICSU’s Members to assess their situation.

Responses from Members about experiences specific to their national or thematic context in that regard are now available on our website. CFRS also compiled constitutional texts from around the world to document that the concept of academic freedom is guaranteed at the highest legal level in many countries. This comprehensive document may also be of interest to researchers working in related areas. More information can be found on the Freedom and Universality Portal.
