The two policy briefs provide key messages and recommendations aimed at policy- and decision-makers at different levels of governance, from local to global, on how to close the science-practice gap at local levels and advance disaster risk reduction through multi-hazard approaches

ISC launches policy briefs ahead of the seventh session of the UN Global Platform on Disaster Risk Reduction (GP2022)

As coordinator of the Scientific and Technological Major Group for the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), the ISC has convened experts from the scientific community to produce two policy briefs on Closing the Gap Between Science and Practice at Local Levels to Accelerate Disaster Risk Reduction and Using UNDRR/ISC Hazard Information Profiles to Manage Risk and implement the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction.

The briefs provide key messages and recommendations aimed at policy- and decision-makers at different levels of governance, from local to global, on how to advance DRR and sustainable development by closing the science-practice gap at local levels, and adopting multi-hazard approaches to risk reduction based on the UNDRR/ISC hazard information profiles.

They will be presented at the seventh session of the Global Platform for DRR taking place on 23 to 28 May in Bali, Indonesia. The Global Platform is a global multi-stakeholder forum to review progress on the implementation of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction. At the Platform, governments, the UN system and all stakeholders get together to share knowledge and discuss the latest developments and trends in reducing disaster risk, identify gaps and make recommendations to further accelerate the implementation of the Sendai Framework.

Closing the Gap Between Science and Practice at Local Levels to Accelerate Disaster Risk Reduction
