This is the fourth of six social media training modules to be delivered over 2024-2025 designed for International Science Council Regional Focal Point for Asia and the Pacific Members to build capability in science communication, improve digital storytelling and use of social media platforms. Speaker: James Fitzgerald

James Fitzgerald is Programme Director for Social Media Knowledge (SMK), a global EdTech business specializing in digital marketing and communication capability transformation. Now based in Australia, James possesses a wealth of social media experience, having founded two of the UK’s hottest social media knowledge businesses, The Social Media Academy and Social Media Library.

Established in 2010, SMK has educated thousands of decision-makers on how they can optimize and enhance their digital communications, including leaders and teams from Apple, Air NZ, Sanitarium, UNICEF, Ralph Lauren, News Corp, GM, Flight Centre, Tourism Australia & HSBC, to name just a few.

Q&A: Dr. Prasanti Widyasih Sarli

Dr. Prasanti W. Sarli, or better known as Asih, is a Lecturer at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Institut Teknologi Bandung. She earned her PhD in Civil Engineering from The University of Tokyo, Japan. She was awarded the L’Oréal-UNESCO Women in Science Award in 2024 and received the Toyota Foundation Grant in 2024. Asih is also a member of the Indonesian Young Academy of Science (ALMI) and has contributed actively to the World Economic Forum.

Beyond academia, she is active on Instagram (@asihsimanis, 16.4K followers), where she shares insights on science, technology, and critical social issues through engaging and thought-provoking content. She has also published two books, reflecting on life, personal growth, and the challenges of adulthood, which have been well received by readers in Indonesia and Malaysia.

Q&A: Prof. Dr. Felix Bast

Prof. Dr. Felix Bast is an award-winning Indian Science Communicator and a full professor working at the Central University of Punjab, India. He holds a PhD in Marine Biology from MEXT, Japan, and served as an expedition scientist in the Indian Antarctic Mission. Prof. Bast was a resident intern with the President of India and received the “President’s Inspired Teacher” recognition. He also won a teaching innovator award from the Indian Ministry of Education, Govt. of India.

Prof. Bast has discovered seven new plant species from India and Antarctica. Sustainability is a major focus of his work. He releases an award-winning monthly science show called “Curiosity” on his YouTube Channel. As an author, he published eight popular science books, including one in Malayalam language.
