New Scientific Committee appointed to Urban Health and Wellbeing programme

The Governing Board of the International Science Committee is delighted to announce the appointment of the Urban Health and Wellbeing (UHWB) programme Scientific Committee that will lead the programme’s scientific strategy between 2020 and 2022/2023. The ISC Governing Board, and all of the programme’s co-sponsors, thank their partner institutions and membership for the quality and number of nominations received.

The new Scientific Committee comprises 15 members, of which around half are joining the Committee for their first term. Chair of the UHWB Scientific Committee, Philippa Howden-Chapman, said:

“I am delighted to welcome the new members to our Committee. They bring a world of experience and different backgrounds representing the various fields of knowledge that contribute to the urban systems approach.”

The UHWB programme is an interdisciplinary research programme of the International Science Council (ISC), supported by the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), the International Society for Urban Health (ISUH) and the United Nations University (UNU). Its International Programme Office is hosted by the Institute of Urban Environment (IUE) of the Chinese Academy of sciences (CAS) in Xiamen, China.

The programme takes a systems perspective on urban health and wellbeing, in order to generate knowledge which is relevant to people and policy-makers for improving health, reducing health inequalities and enhancing the wellbeing of populations living in urban environments.
