The International Science Council (ISC) is looking for a motivated, dynamic Science Officer to contribute to its ambitious strategy in 2025. This an exciting and rare opportunity to join a dedicated team working across geographical, disciplinary and societal boundaries to make the world a better place through science.

About the ISC
The ISC is an international non-governmental organization with a unique global membership that brings together 250 international scientific unions and associations, national and regional scientific organizations including academies and research councils, international federations and societies, and young academies and associations.
The vision of the ISC is science as a global public good. The mission of the ISC is to act as the global voice for science. As part of that mission, the ISC strives to:
- Speak for the value of all science and the need for evidence-informed understanding and decision-making at all levels, from local to global;
- Stimulate and support international, interdisciplinary collaboration, particularly among Members of the Council, on scientific research and scholarship on issues of global concern;
- Articulate scientific knowledge on issues of global concern in the public and policy domains;
- Promote and assist science diplomacy, particularly where it advances the common good and addresses global challenges;

The role
As a science officer, you will have the following responsibilities:
- To manage the ISC’s role and responsibilities as a co‐sponsor of one or more specific international programmes, networks and committees, and leading on related review processes;
- To manage time‐bound scientific projects and programmes; leading on their development, implementation, coordination, communication, reporting and review;
- To provide topic expertise and advice internally and externally, representing the Council at meetings, conferences and other events as required;
- To contribute to projects led by other ISC staff and members;
- To liaise internally to ensure project budgetary compliance, communication and policy interfacing, where appropriate, and dissemination of results;
- To coordinate and connect individuals across a diverse milieu of academic, scientific, science-policy and intergovernmental organizations.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience
Required:
- A post-graduate degree in any scientific discipline, with at least three years of work experience in scientific research, science-policy or science coordination;
- Expertise in one or more domains in which the ISC works. These domains might be scientific research, science-policy or science coordination;
- A full command of written and spoken English. Working knowledge of French and knowledge of other languages will be considered an advantage.
Desirable:
- Experience with major national or international scientific bodies or science funders;
- Experience in the design and administration of, and reporting on, science programmes or projects;
- Experience in supporting technical and/or scientific committees;
- Experience working with globally distributed and/or culturally diverse stakeholders;
- Experience in policy for science systems (e.g. open science, data, funding mechanisms, research assessment, etc.);
- Experience with fundraising, building and managing relationships with donors.
Skills:
- Excellent verbal communication;
- The ability to engage and network with across diverse stakeholders in science;
- Proven ability to write in a concise, convincing manner;
- Project management skills;
- Ability to operate successfully with a high degree of autonomy.
Remuneration
The salary will be dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. The incumbent should be prepared to conduct world-wide travel in line with the ISC’s Organizational Sustainability Principles. There will be an initial probationary period of four months, and the incumbent is expected to reside in the Paris area, benefiting from the ISC’s teleworking policy.
