Background

Jorge Cortés is a researcher at the Center for Research in Marine Sciences and Limnology (CIMAR) and Professor Emeritus at the School of Biology, University of Costa Rica. Has over 40 years of experience in the study of the ecology of the main tropical coastal-marine ecosystems: coral reefs, seagrasses and mangroves. He is interested in research on marine biodiversity and recently on the deep regions of Costa Rica. He has published more than 300 scientific and popular works. Another of his interests is the dissemination of science and creating more awareness about the importance of the oceans for Costa Rica and the planet. He retired but is not leaving, he has continued with research projects, outreach initiatives, and promulgating the study, protection and conservation of the ocean.
