Background

Maryam Ghaemi is a marine chemist specializing in chemical oceanography, marine pollution, ocean acidification and coastal ecosystems. She holds a Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry and is dedicated to understanding nutrient dynamics in coastal and offshore waters, particularly in the Persian Gulf and Gulf of Oman.

She serves as the Integrated Marine Biosphere Research (IMBeR) National Contact for Iran and is the Vice-Chair of IOCINDIO, actively contributing to international ocean research and sustainability efforts. As the Head of the Bushehr Oceanography Center, she leads different projects on Nutrient regime in the Persian Gulf, carbonate chemistry in mangroves and the assessment of heavy metals and persistent organic pollutants in marine protected areas. Her other notable contributions include serving as a Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) Visiting Scholar (2023) and as an Executive Guest Editor for a special issue of Deep Sea Research Part II: Topical Studies in Oceanography (2024–2025).
