Nalini was born in Myanmar, where she spent her early childhood before she and her family emigrated to Australia. She went to primary school and high school in Sydney, completed a BSc at the University of Sydney, then a PhD at Princeton University, before returning to Australia. Nalini is the first female Professor of mathematics appointed at the University of Sydney. She loves teaching and research and has developed new methods to describe elusive solutions of mathematical models in physically important limits. She is a member of the IMU Executive Committee and is its ISC representative.
