Oyawa is a Professor in Civil Engineering at the JKUAT in Kenya.
He obtained his Ph.D. with specialization in Structural Engineering at Kyoto University, Japan in 2000.
He got his M.Sc. in Civil Engineering (1995) and B.Sc. (1989) at the University of Nairobi, Kenya.
He has supervised many students and has over 100 scientific publications.
Past and current positions
Prof. Oyawa is the current Director General/CEO of the National Commission for Science, Technology & Innovation (NACOSTI) since 2020. Kenya.
He was appointed Full Professor of Civil Engineering in the
Department of Civil Engineering, Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and
Technology (JKUAT), Kenya in 2010. He is also a registered Engineer in Kenya.
Early this year, he was appointed Chairman of the East African Science and Technology Commission (EASTECO), a semi-autonomous institution of the East African Community. this year.
Between 2015-2020, Oyawa served as the Deputy Commission Secretary/CEO (Administration & Finance) at the Commission for University Education (CUE) in Kenya.
He is also serving as a Member of the Governing Board of the Joint UK-Kenya Oversight Board in Research, Science and Innovation, which provides strategic
guidance on UK-Kenya partnerships on science and innovation.
