Regional Office for Africa

Update

Announcement regarding the closure of the ROA.

1 April 2021

Dear ISC Members,

It is with great regret that we confirm that the ISC Regional Office for Africa is now closed.

As part of our ongoing Regional Strategy development process, the ISC Governing Board and Headquarters team continue to engage with Members in the region to explore options and, possibly, new models for ensuring the Council’s effective presence in Africa. We will keep the membership updated on relevant developments in this regard.

On behalf of the Board, I wish to acknowledge and thank the entire ROA team, led by Daniel Nyanganyura (Director) and including Richard Glover, Bongani Mahlalela and Nomasomi Gasa, and in memoriam, Lerato Mmatloa, for their valuable work over many years, and for their commitment to advancing science as a global public good.

During this transition period, Members should contact ISC Membership Liaison Officer Anne Thieme (anne.thieme@council.science) for any enquiries and support.

Yours faithfully,

Heide Hackmann, CEO
International Science Council
