The Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific currently has the following staff:
Malaysia’s first astrophysicist, Mazlan has a history of working in the advancement of science and a distinguished career which includes Director of the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs from 1999 – 2002, and 2007 – 2013, and founding Director General of ANGKASA, the Malaysian National Space Agency from 2002-2007. She took up the ICSU ROAP Director role in September 2017. Mazlan studied Physics at the University of Otago, Dunedin on a Colombo Plan Scholarship where she also took her Ph.D. in Astrophysics. Mazlan was the first woman awarded a doctorate from the Physics Department in the nearly 120 years since its founding.
Senior Science Officer
Hafiz joined ISC-ROAP office in April 2019 and is currently working on issues pertaining to Urban Health. To some extent, he will also be dealing with issues related to Responsible Conduct of Research (RCR). He previously held the position of Marine Policy Officer at World Wide Fund For Nature (WWF-Malaysia). Hafiz has a background in Political Science, with a LL.M in International Law (specializing in Human Rights and Humanitarian Law).
Sufyan leads programmes addressing disaster risk reduction and climate change. Having joined the Office in 2017, Sufyan collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders in furthering the goals of the Office. Sufyan has a background in Biomedical Science with a Masters degree from the University of Melbourne.
Hannah joined the Office in April 2018. As the Administrative Executive of the Office, she is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Office, as well as giving full support to Officers in running the Office’s programmes. She also handles financial matters of the Office. She has a background in biotechnology and chemistry and holds a Masters Degree in Molecular Medicine from Universiti Sains Malaysia.
Assistant Administrative Executive
A highly motivated and hardworking individual, Farhana completed her Diploma in E-Commerce. Her previous work experience includes working for the Department of Higher Education of Malaysia and was previously attached to a Private University as an administrative staff. At the Regional Office, Farhana supports the day-to-day operations of the Office and provide assistance to the Director.
INGSA Asia Chapter Regional Programme Officer
Farah Ismail is the Regional Programme Officer for INGSA Asia that hosted by ISC ROAP. She received her BSc in Microbiology from University of Malaya and her MMedSc in Public Health from the same institution. She was previously employed by UNICEF Malaysia before joining ISC ROAP in October 2018.
