<p>As part of the 5-year “Leading Integrated Research for Agenda 2030 in Africa” programme, the International Council for Science (ICSU), in partnership with the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC) will support 10 collaborative research projects across Africa (to the value of up to 90,000 Euro each over two years) that will advance the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 11 (sustainable cities and communities) in Africa.</p>

<p>The <a href="https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/globalsdreport/2016">2016 Global Sustainable Development Report</a> (GSDR) was launched in France today at a high-level event at the French Foreign Ministry preceded by a one-day workshop at university Sciences Po. <p>ICSU, along with the <a href="http://en.unesco.org">United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization</a> (UNESCO) and the <a href="http://mta.hu/english">Hungarian Academy of Sciences</a>, was a co-organizer of the 7th <a href="http://www.sciforum.hu">World Science Forum</a> held from 4th to 7th November 2015 in Budapest. At the conclusion of the conference, a six-point declaration was adopted.</p>

<p>According to a new report released today by the International Council for Science (ICSU) and the International Social Science Council (ISSC), the SDGs offer a “major improvement” over their predecessors, the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). However, the report finds that of the 169 targets beneath the 17 draft goals, just 29% are well defined and based on the latest scientific evidence, while 54% need more work and 17% are weak or non-essential.</p>
