The commentary is the result of a workshop organized by the <a href="https://www.wcrp-climate.org">World Climate Research Programme</a> (WCRP), followed by a side event co-organized by the International Council for Science (ICSU) at <a href="http://www.cop22-morocco.com">COP22</a> in November 2016.</p>
