Recommendations from the Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation at Rio+20

<p>The Forum was a great success, bringing together leading international scientists, policy-makers, industry, NGOs, journalists and youth from more than 75 countries. Over 1,000 people attended the event, with another 1,000 watching the live webcast and many more interacting via social media. Recommendations from the sessions are now online, alongside the live blog, recordings of the sessions and other information.</p>

Forum on Science, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable Development prior to Rio+20

<p>The Forum brings together leading international scientists, policy-makers and other stakeholders to explore the key role of interdisciplinary science and innovation in the transition to sustainable development, a green economy and poverty eradication. The aim is to help establish the research, technology and policy agendas that will be needed after <a href="https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/rio20">Rio+20</a>.</p>

Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) to meet in Panama

<p>The <a href="https://www.ipbes.net/">Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services</a> (IPBES) is a new international platform for scientists and policy makers. It is to some extent modelled on the <a href="http://www.ipcc.ch/">Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change</a> (IPCC) and will have a similar integrated science assessment function. ICSU and its programmes for biodiversity (DIVERSITAS) and the human dimensions of environmental change (IHDP) have been strong advocates for IPBES.</p>

<p>A paper has been published in Science and Public Policy describing ICSU’s latest foresight analysis exercise, which looks ahead to 2031 and focuses on the role of science in society’s response to emerging global challenges.</p>

Rio+20 policy briefs released by the GEC Programmes

<p>The first five <a href="https://sustainabledevelopment.un.org/rio20">Rio+20</a> policy briefs have been released by the Global Environmental Change (GEC) programmes. The policy briefs specifically target policy-makers in the Rio+20 process, aiming to give them access to the latest scientific thinking on sustainable development.</p>
