Professor Rajib Shaw to step down as IRDR Executive Director

<p>Professor Rajib Shaw will step down as Executive Director of the <a href="https://www.icsu.org/what-we-do/research-programmes/thematic-organizations/integrated-research-on-disaster-risk-irdr">Integrated Research on Disaster Risk</a> (IRDR) programme based in at the Institute of Remote Sensing and Digital Earth (RADI) at the end of March due to unforeseen personal circumstances.</p>

7th World Science Forum in Budapest adopts declaration

<p>ICSU, along with the <a href="http://en.unesco.org">United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization</a> (UNESCO) and the <a href="http://mta.hu/english">Hungarian Academy of Sciences</a>, was a co-organizer of the 7th <a href="http://www.sciforum.hu">World Science Forum</a> held from 4th to 7th November 2015 in Budapest. At the conclusion of the conference, a six-point declaration was adopted.</p>

Allan Lavell wins United Nations Sasakawa Award for Disaster Risk Reduction

<p>Allan Lavell, a key member of the community of the ICSU co-sponsored Integrated Research on Disaster Risk programme (IRDR), has been awarded the prestigious prize that is awarded to individuals or institutions that have taken active efforts in reducing disaster risk in their communities and advocated for disaster risk reduction.</p>

More than 1,000 delegates gather in Geneva for talks on global disaster risk reduction agreement

<p>ICSU took part in the second preparatory session for the <a href="http://www.wcdrr.org">Third World Disaster Risk Reduction Conference</a> at the UN in Geneva from Nov 17-18. As the organizing partner of the Science and Technology Major Group, ICSU convened a delegation of more than 20 representatives from Europe, Latin America, Asia, Africa drawn from research organizations, ICSU’s IRDR programme and ICSU’s Regional Offices and partner organizations such as the IAP.</p>

New report from ICSU’s GeoUnions on Disaster Management

<p>The ICSU GeoUnions, the <a href="https://www.fig.net/jbgis/">Joint Board of Geospatial Information Societies</a> (JBGIS), the <a href="http://www.unoosa.org">United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs</a> (UNOOSA) and the <a href="http://www.un-spider.org/about/publication/un-platform-space-based-information-disaster-management-and-emergency-response">United Nations Platform for Space-based Information for Disaster Management and Emergency Response</a> (UN-SPIDER) published earlier this month a new report which looks at the benefits of applying Geoinformation to disaster management.</p>
