Call for Nominations – Early Career Scientists at Habitat III

In October 2016, 40,000+ people will meet in Quito, Ecuador for the largest cities summit in United Nations history – Habitat III. ICSU is now accepting nominations for Early Career Scientists to participate in the summit.

It will be a defining moment for the future of cities, and representation of the scientific community in this event is crucial to ensure that the New Urban Agenda is based on the best available evidence and coherent with other international frameworks (such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement), and science effectively contributes to its implementation. As the single largest gathering of urban stakeholders for decades, Habitat III will also be an important career-building opportunity for researchers embarking on a career in the urbanization space.

ICSU’s role is to ensure this representation – hence we shall be sending a delegation to Quito, and we want early career scientists (ECS) to be part of that delegation. Early career scientists can expect to take part in side events, networking events, dialogues with stakeholders, attending the negotiations, and to engage with the broader urbanization community. Scientists from Least Developed Countries and women are encouraged to apply.
