Leading a consortium of scientific research organizations, the Council sought to look at SDG interactions in a new way. First launched at the STI Forum in May, the report builds on an earlier publication from 2015 (“Review of Targets for the Sustainable Development Goals: the Science perspective”) and explores how countries can transform the complicated set of individual goals into a coherent roadmap they can implement in the next 13 years.
To learn more about the report read this post from the authors of the health chapter on the HLPF platform as well as this piece from agriculture chapter authors recently featured on the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI).
Established as a result of Rio +20, the HLPF has a central role in overseeing and reviewing processes for implementation of the 2030 Agenda at a global level. Under this year’s theme of “Eradicating poverty and promoting prosperity in a changing world” the HLPF will carry out a review that focuses on the following SDGs in depth:
– Goal 1. End poverty in all its forms everywhere.
– Goal 2. End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
– Goal 3. Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.
– Goal 5. Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls.
– Goal 9. Build resilient infrastructure, promote inclusive and sustainable industrialization and foster innovation.
– Goal 14. Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas, and marine resources for sustainable development.
Including Goal 17. Strengthen the means of implementation and revitalize the global partnership for sustainable development.
The reviews will be state-led and involve developed and developing countries as well as UN entities and stakeholders. In 2017, 44 countries will present their voluntary national reviews to the HLPF. UN member states are encouraged to each carry out two voluntary national reviews at the HLPF between 2015 and 2030.
