Registration now open for the World Science Forum 2019

The 2019 World Science Forum (WSF) will take place between 20-23 November in Budapest, under the title “Science, Ethics and Responsibility”.

Registration now open for the World Science Forum 2019

This year’s conference will be an opportunity to celebrate the heritage of the 1999 UNESCO World Conference on Science, the first gathering of the world’s governments and the international scientific community to prepare a new ‘social contract’ for science, and the event that inspired the regular meetings of the World Science Forum 20 years ago.

The Forum is a joint effort of UNESCO, the International Science Council (ISC), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), the InterAcademy Partnership (IAP), TWAS – the World Academy of Sciences, the European Academies Science Advisory Council (EASAC) and the Hungarian Academy of Sciences (MTA) as the host of the 2019 event and the organization that initiated the WSF series.

Under the theme “Science, Ethics and Responsibility”, WSF2019 will highlight the increasing importance of the ethical considerations that underlie decisions about the conduct, funding, utilisation or communication of scientific research in an era of transformative technological, environmental and social developments.

The programme aims to provide an opportunity for scientists, policy-makers, society, industry, and science communicators to participate in 6 plenary sessions, 20 thematic sessions and many more special sessions and side events. We hope that for four days in Budapest, scientists, policy-makers, representatives of civil society and global companies from all over the world will be engaged in exciting discussions regarding the environmental, economic and social challenges facing the world of science. Sessions convened by partner organizations will present how the technological revolution in biological engineering, artificial intelligence, and other highly debated fields of scientific research have the potential to radically transform human life.

The flow of plenary sessions will be complemented by keynote lectures focusing on recent and inspiring discoveries and new approaches that will be or are already shaping our future. The results of these discussions will be presented in the form of a closing declaration adopted by the partner organizations and the participants of the Forum.

The 2019 World Science Forum will also allow for many face-to-face meetings, workshops and social events with a rich cultural experience for participants offered as part of its full programme.
