As we reflect on the themes of International Women’s Day, the ISC’s new podcast, “ISC Presents: Women in Science” continues the celebration of women in science in the weeks following the International Day by providing listeners with thought provoking dialogue and insightful discussions. Through the voices of women scientists in STEM from around the world, we explore the themes surrounding gender equality in science systems, breaking systemic barriers and celebrating the achievements of women in science.
“Talents are equally distributed between genders and one will miss a lot of talent by not allowing women equal access. So gender equality is in the interest of science itself”, says Catherine Jami in Episode 1. “It’s important that every citizen of the world can identify themselves to science so that they can listen to what science has to say.”
As we work toward increasing gender equality in global science, we believe that the themes of International Women’s Day should be celebrated and reflected on everyday of the year – not just March 8th. In our 15 minute episodes released weekly, we amplify the challenges and rewards of working as a woman in science, by creating a platform that allows for further reflection awareness on the subject – in hopes of inspiring younger women to pursue STEM careers. “Science is for you,” Catherine Jami tells the younger generation of female scientists. “You are for science, and you are needed.”
