Vale Véronique Plocq-Fichelet

A message from Salvatore Aricò, CEO of the International Science Council on the passing of Véronique Plocq-Fichelet

At a personal level, for having collaborated closely with Véronique and SCOPE closely from my previous positions, I wish to recall Véronique’s finesse for crafting strategic collaborations around projects centered on emerging or unresolved environmental problems. She had a unique sense in suggesting project leaders and participants, and always made herself available to interact with all phases in projects’ implementation.

Véronique complemented her efficient management style with an acute sense of irony, reflecting her intelligence and sparkles of humour that helped make work more enjoyable and smoother.

SCOPE was an expert committee of one of the ISC’s predecessors – ICSU and is now a proud Affiliated Member. Under Véronique’s leadership, SCOPE carried out multiple assessments, including rapid assessments supporting policy, which paved the ground for, or contributed to, fully-fledged projects in the area of global environmental challenges. SCOPE would gather both natural and social scientists, thus anticipating interdisciplinarity in action.

The international science community pays respect to the accomplishments and memory of Véronique Plocq-Fichelet.
