World Urban Forum ends with Kuala Lumpur Declaration

The 9th Session of the World Urban Forum took place in Kuala Lumpur. Representatives of national, subnational and local governments, parliamentarians, civil society, older persons, women, youth, children, persons with disabilities, grassroots groups, indigenous peoples and local communities, private sector, foundations and philanthropies, international and regional organizations, academia, professionals and other relevant stakeholders gathered in Malaysia to localize and scale up the implementation of the New Urban Agenda as an accelerator to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

In Kuala Lumpur, ICSU partnered with a range of city actors to improve the collective knowledge of sustainable urban development, fostering exchange of urban solutions and good policies, through its programmes, networks, and regional offices. The WUF saw the launch of the Belt & Road Symposium on Urban Health, as well the Interim Report of the Nature Sustainability Expert Panel (supported by ICSU).

Through ICSU’s engagement, WUF allowed policymakers and scientists to set common goals for the pressing needs of fast-growing cities.
