The Global Young Academy’s Open Science Working Group has had an exciting start to the year, as GYA finalized their Memorandum of Understanding with The Public Library of Science (PLOS). GYA hopes to work together over the coming year to create exciting new opportunities to advance open science and to give diverse young scientists a voice in the future of open science. You can read more about the collaboration here.
The 2024 kick-off event will happen next on 2 February 2024 at 12:00 UTC during the first “Open Science First Friday” of the year. In this session, Agata Morka of PLOS will discuss Article Processing Charges’ what, why and how. She will investigate the rationale behind this model, pointing out its unintended consequences on scholarly communications and envisioning ways to move beyond APCs for a more equitable science open to all. Agata and her colleagues are interested in not only sharing information, but in opening a dialogue with us about how to do open science better. There will be several First Friday events featuring PLOS, and we will also be forming some focus groups. Please reach out if you are interested in learning more! See the full abstract below and the social media card attached to this email.
Anyone and everyone is invited to join GYA for First Friday events! You can find more information about previous and upcoming events, and instructions on how to join the Zoom Room, here. Or you can click below to register and join the Zoom directly.
