The Climate Research Forum for Europe and Western Asia will begin with an overview of WCRP from the Chair and Vice Chair of the WCRP Joint Scientific Committee (the scientific steering body of WCRP), Detlef Stammer and Helen Cleugh, followed by presentations highlighting key WCRP Activities, including several of the WCRP Core Projects, the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP), the Coordinated Regional Climate Downscaling Experiment (CORDEX), and the WCRP Lighthouse Activities (My Climate Risk, Safe Landing Climates, Explaining and Predicting Earth System Change, and the WCRP Academy). This will be followed by two panel discussions:

Panel 1: Opportunities to broaden WCRP science engagement

Panelists will include:

  • Wendy Broadgate, Future Earth Global Hub Director, Sweden
  • Alexander Chernokulsky, Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Russia
  • Panos Hadjinicolaou, Climate and Atmosphere Research Center, The Cyprus Institute, Cyprus
  • Orli Lachmy, Open University of Israel, Israel
  • Gaby Langendijk, GERICS Climate Service Center, Germany, and Young Earth System Scientists (YESS) Community

Panel 2: Opportunities to strengthen support for WCRP science

Panelists will include:

  • Antonios Gypakis, General Secretariat for Research and Technology, Greece – pending confirmation
  • Susanne Mecklenburg, European Space Agency (ESA), UK
  • Jean-Noël Thépaut, Copernicus Services, European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), UK
  • Philippe Tulkens, Climate and Planetary Boundaries Unit, European Commission, Belgium
  • Sarah Webb, Natural Environment Research Council, UK

This will be followed by a moderated question and answer session.

The Forum is without charge and is open to all, but you are still required to register.
