Netherlands, Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW)

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences has been a member since 1922.

The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (Koninklijke Nederlandse Akademie van Wetenschappen), founded in 1808, covers the entire field of learning. It comprises two Divisions: a Science Division (110 regular members) and a Humanities and Social Sciences Division (90 regular members). The functions of the Academy are: a) advising the government on matters related to scientific research; b) judging the quality of scientific research (peer review); c) providing a forum for the scientific world and promoting international scientific cooperation; d) acting as an umbrella organization for institutes primarily engaged in basic scientific research and in disseminating information.
