Seychelles, Seychelles National Parks Authority

The Seychelles National Parks Authority has been a member since 1983.

In 1989, a Department of Environment was created under the responsibility of the President of the Republic of the Seychelles to coordinate environmental activities and to act as a watchdog. In January 1991, the Conservation and National Parks Service was first created as a Division in the Department of Environment. In July 1992, all the functions of the now defunct Seychelles National Environment Commission (SNEC) were transferred by order of the President to the Director of Conservation and National Parks. Conservation is now a section of the Division of Nature and Conservation in the Ministry of Environment and Transport. Its main tasks include the maintenance and management of all critical habitats, endemic and endangered flora and fauna, and special reserves in the Seychelles.
