The Pacific Science Association was created in 1920 at the First Pan-Pacific Scientific Conference. Its objectives are: to review and establish priorities of common scientific concerns in the Pacific Basin and to provide a multidisciplinary forum for discussion of these concerns through Congresses and Inter-Congresses and other scientific meetings; to initiate and promote cooperation in the study of scientific problems relating to the Pacific region, more particularly those affecting the prosperity and well-being of Pacific peoples; to strengthen the bonds among Pacific peoples by promoting cooperation among the scientists of all the Pacific countries.
