Call for nominations: Stein Rokkan prize for comparative social science research

The Stein Rokkan prize is awarded for works in comparative studies from all social science disciplines. It is given to a submission that is deemed to be a very substantial and original contribution in comparative social science research.

The Stein Rokkan Prize for Comparative Social Science Research is presented by the International Science Council (ISC), the University of Bergen and the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR). Thanks to the generosity of the University of Bergen it now comprises an award of $5,000 and is awarded on an annual basis.

Stein Rokkan was a pioneer of comparative political and social science research, renowned among other things for his ground-breaking work on the nation state and democracy. A brilliant researcher and a professor at the University of Bergen where he spent most of his career, Rokkan was also president of the International Social Science Council (ISSC) (which merged with the International Council for Science (ICSU) in 2018 to form the International Science Council), and one of the founders of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR).

The prize is open to works in comparative studies from all social science disciplines. It is given to a submission that is deemed by the jury to be a very substantial and original contribution in comparative social science research.

Self-nominations are not allowed.

Submissions should be sent by email to Marcia Taylor ([email protected]) at the ECPR before the deadline of 15 February 2019.

After 15 February 2019 all nominees will be informed and required to forward hard copies of their manuscript to each member of the jury for consideration. Please note that electronic versions will not be accepted and submissions unfortunately cannot be returned. Submissions should be received by all five members of the jury by 15 March 2019.
