As the world increasingly relies on scientific expertise to address existential challenges – from pandemics to climate change – the International Science Council (ISC) launched a call earlier this year for experts to join its new Global Roster of Experts. The response was overwhelming, with over 1,000 applications from across the globe, showcasing the diversity and quality of expertise available to support science-policy dialogue. This initiative aligns with the ISC’s commitment to embedding scientific knowledge at the heart of decision-making, particularly in multilateral settings like the United Nations, where complex issues demand robust, interdisciplinary insights.
The Global Roster of Experts will enable the ISC to provide timely, relevant, and actionable scientific advice across disciplines and regions.
The Global Roster of Experts allows us to bring scientific expertise directly into policy conversations, connecting specialists with the real-time needs of decision-makers. By establishing this resource, we’re equipping ourselves to respond quickly and thoughtfully to requests from the UN and beyond, ensuring that science has a role in shaping effective solutions to complex global issues.
With over 1,000 applicants, the roster brings together a wealth of perspectives from all scientific disciplines and sectors, including academia, government, NGOs, and private sector innovators, reflecting the ISC’s commitment to a truly global and inclusive approach.
Anne-Sophie Stevance, Head of the ISC’s Global Science Policy Unit, highlights this diversity:
The roster is about more than just expertise; it’s about building a resource that is reflective of our global scientific community, ready to bring comprehensive insights to the forefront of critical policy discussions.
The Global Roster of Experts is more than a list of specialists; it’s a dynamic resource that the ISC will call upon for various critical roles, including:
The ISC is thrilled to welcome these experts and has already begun integrating them into key initiatives. Roster members will have opportunities to showcase their expertise in multilateral settings, advancing the ISC’s mission to promote science as a public good. Those interested in joining in the future should watch for upcoming application opportunities in ISC’s newsletters, as the organization continues to adapt to global challenges and emerging needs.
