Asun is a Senior Advisor to the Earth System Services Unit of the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, Barcelona, Spain. She also serves on the European Commission Mission Board for Climate Change Adaptation and Societal Transformations.

Philosopher and sociologist, Asun has over 25 years of experience on solutions-oriented research on the human and ethical dimensions of global challenges with a focus on sustainable development. Her current work focuses on trustworthy digital technologies (in particular AI) and on leveraging them for equitable transformations to sustainability, co-production of climate services, and science communication.

Asun is member of Future Earth Advisory Board, Advisor to the Sustainability in the Digital Age Initiative, and member of the Advisory Committee of the University of Bonn Her work has contributed to the development of the International Council for Science social science agenda for global change.

She was Lead Author for IPCC Fifth Assessment Report (AR5) for Working Group II on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability, and Business and Industry Representative in the UNFCCC Adaptation Committee TEP (from 2016-2018).

Previously, Asun was Professor of Sociology at the University of Bergen, Norway, and Research Director of the Oslo Centre for Climate Research-CICERO.
