Dania Bacardí Fernández

Dania Bacardí is a member of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) Liaison Committee

Dr Bacardí is a Senior Specialist in Experimental Toxicology and Regulatory Affairs at the Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (CIGB) and Titular Professor of the University of Medical Sciences in Havana. She got a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Havana, a Master’s degree of Science in Experimental Toxicology at the University of Havana from 2000 to 2002, and a PhD. in Health Sciences in 2013.

She is responsible for preparing preclinical regulatory advice and guidance/management/preparing regulatory submissions. She is designing strategic project planning of the toxicology research for pharmaceuticals, biotechnology (anticancer products, vaccines, antiviral and cytokines), generics, herbal medicines and biologics among other related activities in adherence with applicable legislation in preclinical research and Good Laboratory Practices. She has been involved in 52 projects (165 studies) on experimentation with laboratory animals. She has written papers about the topics above mentioned and the preclinical assessment of different drugs (Journals as Advances in Pharmacoepidemiology & Drug Safety, Toxicity and Drug Testing, ISBN 978-953-51-0004-1, Human and Experimental Toxicology, Toxicology Letters, Mol Cell Biochem and others). She was a leading member during the Certification by the ONN, IQNET and AENOR of ISO STANDARDS: 9000-2008 in the CIGB’s. She, as a member of the Faculty of 2 Annual Courses, delivers numerous trainings and tutorials to specialists inside and outside the CIGB, on topics related to BPP, Employment of Laboratory Animal in Research and Experimental Toxicology. She is also part of the faculty of the Mastery of Experimental Toxicology and Contemporary Biotechnology. She is an Associate Professor of the University of Medical Sciences and faculty member in two masteries: Contemporary Biotechnology and Toxicology Master of the University in Havana. She is a full member of the HOT/SOT since 2017 and Councillor of Society of Toxicology/Hispanic Organization of Toxicology (2018-2020).
