Dr. Haseena Khan, a former UGC Professor and now a Member of the University Grants Commission (UGC) has been recognized by the Govt. of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh with the Independence Day Award 2019, the highest civilian award of the country for her contribution to research and training.
Her pioneering work on the molecular biology of jute as cash crop of Bangladesh provided the essential genomic and bioinformatics manpower for the success of the jute genome project and it also helped to lay the foundation for genomics and transcriptomics research in the country.
Professor Haseena Khan, is the first female Secretary of the Bangladesh Academy of Science, the apex body of science in Bangladesh. She is also a Fellow of The World Academy of Science. She has served in the 1st National Executive Committee on Biotechnology in Bangladesh, advising on the application of biotechnology in national development. She helped in the development of the National Biotechnology Guidelines.
She is a member of the Board of Governors, of the National Institute of Biotechnology and member of the National Technical Committee on Biotechnology
