Prof. GONG is immediate Past-President of the World Federation of Engineering Organizations (WFEO), Director of the Chinese Institute of the New Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Strategies, and Chairman of the Academic Committee of Nankai University. In 1986, he obtained Doctor degree for Technical Science from Technical University of Graz, Austria. He joined Tsinghua University in 1987, where he had been the Dean of the Electronic Engineering Department, Director of Chinese National Research Center for Information Science and Technology at Tsinghua. From 1999-2006 he was vice president of Tsinghua University. From 2006-2011 he was President of Tianjin University, then the President of Nankai University from 2011 to 2018.
Prof. GONG has obtained the Chinese National Award for Technical Inventions and for Teaching Excellency, as well as many other rewards from Chinese and International organizations. Besides his achievements in research and education, Prof. GONG has served as member of standing committee of Chinese Association of Science and Technology CAST , and chaired CAST’s standing committee for international cooperation and its Adhoc committee for Research Integrity (2006-2016). He had also served as a member of the Scientific Advisory Board to UN Secretary General from 2013-2017.
