Professor Michelle Mycoo is the Professor of Urban and Regional Planning in the Department of Geomatics Engineering and Land Management, Faculty of Engineering, at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago. She is one of two Coordinating Lead Authors of Chapter 15 on Small Islands in Working Group II of the Sixth Assessment Report of the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change. Professor Mycoo is a Member of the Future Earth Coasts (FEC) Academy and a Regional Engagement Partner of FEC. She is also a Steering Committee Member of the UN-Habitat University Partnership Initiative.
Professor Mycoo has thirty years of experience as a professional urban planner and academic. She has been a senior technical advisor to Caribbean governments and international development agencies on a range of policy issues related to spatial and socio-economic development. Among the development partners for which she has been commissioned to conduct studies are the World Bank, the European Union, the Inter-American Development Bank and the Caribbean Development Bank. Among her scholarly contributions are 43 international peer-reviewed publications on a wide range of thematic areas on Caribbean case studies in urban and regional planning including: urban sustainability, integrated coastal zone planning and management, urban water demand management, climate change, natural hazard risk reduction, sustainable tourism, gated communities and peri-urban development. Apart from journal articles and invited book chapters, she has written over 40 technical reports, training manuals, policy briefs, newsletters and viewpoints for national and regional policymakers and practitioners.
