Nebojsa Nakicenovic is the Deputy Chair of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission and the Director of The World In 2050. He was the Deputy Director General and later Acting Director General of the International Institute for Applies Systems Analyses and was a tenured Professor of Energy Economics at Vienna Technology University.
Among other positions, he is a Member of the Academia Europaea, Montenegrin Academy of Arts and Sciences, Earth League, Earth Commission, Multi-stakeholder Technical Group of Sustainable Development Goal 7, Scientific Advisory Boards of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, Japanize Institute of Environmental Studies, German Aerospace Center; Steering Committee of the Renewable Energy Policy Network for the 21st Century; and Member of OMV Advisory Group on Sustainability. He serves on Editorial Boards of ten peer-reviewed scientific.
Dr. Nakicenovic’s research interests include patterns of technological change including the evolution of energy, mobility, digital technologies, economic development and climate change. Dr. Nakicenovic holds bachelors and master’s degrees in economics and computer science from Princeton University and the University of Vienna, where he also completed his Ph.D., and holds Honoris Causa Ph.D. degree in engineering from the Russian Academy of Sciences.
