Prof. Dr. Artvinli has been a teacher educator for many years and knows about the difficulties of face-to-face teacher education. Online education is still far away from replacing face-to-face education, however online education has its own advantages when comparing it to face-to-face education in many ways. Prof. Dr. Artvinli started online education for teachers in Turkey together with the Turkish Geographical Society and managed to reach many teachers across a wide range of disciplines. During this time, he experienced that many teachers appreciated the professional development opportunity for them thanks to online education. In the frame of COVIDEA, Prof. Dr. Artvinli will aim to share his previous experience about learning from a distance: He was the Director of the Institute of Education at Eskisehir Osmangazi University in Eskisehir, Turkey between 2017 and 2020 where he developed distance education courses and materials for teachers. He found that it was very effective for those teachers who cannot join the courses during the day because of their duty in schools and the current pandemic term will provide new opportunities to identify and apply new educational tools and ways for teachers.
