Subbiah Arunachalam (Arun)

Involvement at the ISC

Background

Arun is Visiting Professor at the DST Centre for Policy Research, Indian Institute of Science, and a Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for Internet & Society.

He started his career as a research chemist but found his calling in information science and science of science.

Arun is an Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals (CILIP, UK) since 2001, a Founder-Member of the International Society of Scientometrics & Informetrics (ISSI, 1993), and a Life Member of IASLIC (Indian Association of Special Libraries and Information Centres).

In the past, he was a member of the International Advisory Board of The International Institute for Communication and Development (IICD), The Hague, a Trustee of the Global Knowledge Partnership (GKP), Chairman of the Board, One World South Asia, Chairman of the Board of Voicing the Voiceless Foundation,a trustee of the Electronic Publishing Trust for Development (UK), and a member of the National Mission on Libraries, National Knowledge Commission, Government of India.

He has published over 120 papers, spoken at more than 100 international conferences, authored over 10 book chapters, and served on the editorial boards of numerous journals.

Arun’s interests include scientometrics, science policy, information science, public understanding of science, openness in scholarly communication and ICT for Development.
