Introduction

It includes the inauguration of the new offices on the premises of the Mexican Academy of Sciences after the relocation from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on 1 March, 2011. During its 9th Meeting in March, 2011 in Mexico, the Regional Committee had defined two strategic priorities.

The first strategic priority for the Regional Office was the planning of implementation activities for the Science Plans of ICSU ROLAC´s four scientific priority areas biodiversity, natural hazards, sustainable energy and mathematics education. A major achievement related to the scientific priority area sustainable energy was the submission of the final report of the project “Sustainable Energy Systems for Universal Energy Access and to Mitigate Global Climate Change: Design of a Regional Program for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RE & EE) Research and Innovation Networks in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC)” to the Inter-American Development Bank (IABD).
