Roberto Lenton is a specialist in water, environment and international development with some 45 years of international experience in the field. A national of Argentina, he earned a civil engineering degree from the University of Buenos Aires and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He has held various senior positions in water, environment and international development, both in international policy and practice and in research and development. He served as Chair of the Inspection Panel of the World Bank (a vice-presidential level position), director of the Sustainable Energy and Environment Division of UNDP, and program officer in the Rural Poverty and Resources program of the Ford Foundation. In the world of research and development, he has served as Founding Executive Director of the Daugherty Water for Food Global Institute at the University of Nebraska, senior advisor at the Earth Institute at Columbia University and its International Research Institute for Climate and Society, director general of the International Water Management Institute, and assistant professor of civil and environmental engineering at MIT. He currently serves as Chair of the Board of Governors of the International Water Management Institute.
