Background

Prof. Wanjohi, a Kenyan national after her early education, proceeded to Kenyatta University where she obtained her B.Ed, M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees. In 1989, she joined Kenyatta University faculty and has risen through the ranks to the current position of a full professor of plant pathology. Prof. Wanjohi is currently the Ag. Vice chancellor at Kenyatta University and the Vice chairman Kenya National Academy of Sciences

Prof. Wanjohi has been at the forefront in promoting the Science agenda through various innovative initiatives and in her different leadership and management roles both within and outside Kenya. These contributions have earned her recognition both nationally and internationally; she is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Biology; a Fellow of the Kenya National Academy of Sciences; a Fulbright Senior Research Fellow; a Fellow -African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) and was recognized as an outstanding Scientist by the Falling Walls Foundation in Germany. In 2020, Prof Wanjohi was among the 20 women scientist who featured in the book “Enhancing girls participation in STEM: Inspiring Stories of African Women Scientists” published by Forum for African Women Educationist (FAWE). She was appointed as a mentor for the emerging Women Agricultural scientists.
