Background

Marie-Alexandrine Sicre is a Senior Scientist at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, LOCEAN, Sorbonne Université, Paris, France. She earned a PhD in Marine Sciences from the Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris and was a postdoctoral fellow at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, USA. Her major research interest is on the role of the ocean on climate variability over the Common Era.

Marie-Alexandrine Sicre served as President of the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) from 2016 to 2020 and is currently SCOR Past President (2020-2024). She was elected Vice-Chairperson of the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of UNESCO in 2021, and is the Co-Chairperson of the Second International Indian Ocean Expedition program as well as a member of the Indian Ocean Region Panel (IORP) of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP)- Climate and Ocean Variability, Predictability and Change (CLIVAR). She is also engaged in the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.
