Alex Godoy

Associate Professor and Director of the Sustainability Research Centre

Alex Godoy is the Director of the Sustainability Research Centre at School of Engineering at Universidad del Desarrollo in Chile, Research Associate at Earth Engineering Centre at Columbia University and Scholar at Weatherhead Centre for International Affairs at Harvard University.

He has been member of advisory boards in governmental institutions such as the Ministry of Science, Technology, Knowledge and Innovation, the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Environment as well as a member of the presidential commissions at Ministry of Energy.

In 2015, He was a member of the Chilean delegation for UN Climate Change Conference (COP21) and member of the scientific committee in UN Climate Change Conference (COP25). At international level, he was member of the High-Level Panel of Experts Steering Committee on Food Security and Nutrition at The Committee on World Food Security – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (CFS-FAO), Review Editor for the Working Group III of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sixth Assessment Report; lead author of Global Environment Outlook 6 for Business and Global Environment Outlook (GEO7) at United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP); and lead author for Nexus Assessment at Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES). In 2020, he was one of the authors of the report ’10 New Insights in Climate Science, ‘by Future Earth and member of the ISO / TC 323 committee of the standard in preparation ISO / WD 59004 Circular economy. Finally, in 2019, he was awarded as Doctor Honoris Causa – Doctor of Laws at the University of Wisconsin – Green Bay for my contribution to creating public policies and innovations in the private sector on Sustainability.

His field research is Sustainability Science by assessing the impacts of trading of material flow accounting.
