The IUSSP International Population Conference is the world’s largest international scientific conference on population issues. First organised in 1927 and held every four years since 1959, the conference brings together over 2,000 scientists, policymakers and practitioners from around the globe to present and discuss the latest research on contemporary population and development issues.

At the invitation of the Australian Population Association, the 30th International Population Conference (IPC2025) will take place in Brisbane, Australia at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre (BCEC) from 13 to 18 July 2025. IPC 2025 will be an in-person conference.

The Conference will include over 800 oral presentations and up to 1,000 posters selected from research submitted to the Call for Papers. There will also be plenary sessions, debates and invited panel discussions featuring leading experts in the field, as well as training workshops, exhibits and side meetings occurring both before and during the Conference.

The Conference is open to all members of the population community and those interested in population matters working in research, teaching, governmental and non-governmental organisations, as well as the private sector including publishing companies and the media.

Institutions working in the population field are encouraged to organise exhibits, side meetings, training workshops, or sponsored research leader sessions.

All researchers and population specialists are warmly invited to submit paper or poster proposals and to plan on attending this event. Presentations in oral and poster sessions will be selected through a peer-review submission process.

Scientific Program

The scientific programme of the Conference will be created from abstracts submitted to the Call for Papers by the submission deadline of 15 September 2024. All abstracts must be submitted online via the IPC2025 website, which is scheduled to open for submissions on 1 May 2024. Always check the IPC2025 Conference website for updates.

Authors can submit to one of the 24 conference themes or one of the 72 member-organized session topics listed below. All submissions will
be reviewed by 2 anonymous experts on the topic area. Theme Conveners and Session Organisers will select abstracts for inclusion in the programme
based on reviews, relevance and appropriateness of the communication for the session.

IPC 2025 will be an in-person conference. Authors whose papers are accepted on the programme will be expected to register for and attend the conference in Brisbane, Australia 13-18 July 2025.

Instructions for submitting a paper or poster

  1. Only one submission as presenting author will be allowed in the Call for Papers for IPC 2025. Abstract submitters may however be listed as co-authors on other submissions. The one-abstract limit is to encourage individuals to submit their best work and keep the work of reviewing and selecting submissions manageable for the reviewers, session organisers and theme conveners.
  2. Authors should submit both a short abstract (200 words) and an extended abstract (2-4 pages, including tables) describing the topic, theoretical focus, data, research methods, and expected findings. The extended abstract must be uploaded to the conference submission website.
  3. The submitting author should provide the full names, affiliations and email addresses of all co-authors listed on the submission and indicate which author will most likely present the paper at the conference. This information can be changed later.
  4. Abstracts should be submitted to either a theme topic or a session topic. Those submitting a paper to a session topic can indicate a theme that is most relevant to the paper in case the paper is not included in the member-organised session so that it can be considered for inclusion in a theme session.
  5. Poster sessions: Authors who only want to present a poster should submit to a theme and select “poster session”. All papers submitted to a theme or member-organised session that are not selected for a regular oral session will be considered for a poster session.
  6. All submissions will be reviewed by 2 anonymous reviewers before they are considered for inclusion in a session by a session organiser or a theme convener.
  7. To allow as many colleagues as possible to present their work at IPC 2025, only one appearance as presenting author of a paper or a poster in the regular programme will be allowed. A presenter can however also serve as a session chair or discussant. Co-author roles will not be counted towards the one-appearance rule, nor will roles as an invited speaker in a Research Leader or invited session, including a Plenary session.
  8. The presenting author must register for the conference and pay the registration fee by 1 April 2025 to hold the paper on the programme. An individual registration fee will cover only one oral or poster presentation.

Registration

All participants are expected to register online and pay the registration fee by credit card, check or bank transfer to confirm their participation in
