Nominations open for the Foundation Fellowship of the Pacific Academy of Sciences | deadline: 29 August

The Academy's Selection Committee seeks nominations for up to 12 Foundation Fellows to form the inaugural Council of the Academy, which will work with the Trustees to establish the day-to-day operations of the Academy including electing further Fellows in 2024 and beyond.

The Pacific Academy of Sciences is set to be launched on 23 October 2024 in Samoa alongside the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

The Academy promotes the study and application of the natural and social sciences, the humanities, indigenous knowledge, and technology for the benefit of the Pacific Islands region and beyond.

The Selection Committee invites nominations from those interested in being a Foundation Fellow of the Pacific Academy of Sciences to be submitted before 29 August 2024.

Foundation Fellows have a fundamental role to play in enabling the Academy to deliver on its purpose. Acceptance of Foundation Fellowship implies a strong commitment and willingness to devote time and effort to the Academy’s work whether at a local, national or international level.

The Academy wishes to ensure that its Foundation Fellows collectively represent excellence and reflect the breadth of talent and achievement within and for Pacific Island communities.

The Academy, therefore, seeks Foundation Fellows across the full range of physical and life sciences, arts, humanities, social sciences, education, professions, industry, business and public life. This ensures that the Academy is well-placed to work across, and provide advice on, a wide range of domains and issues.

All candidates for Foundation Fellowship will be assessed on the quality and significance of their achievements. In assessing candidates for election, it is expected that their nomination material will evidence an outstanding level of achievement in at least one of three pathways: distinction in research, advancement of knowledge and impact, and leadership. Election as a Fellow of the Academy is not a reward for long service.

You can self-nominate to be a Foundation Fellow or encourage others to do so.

Please refer to the application guide ‘Information to complete an online foundation fellowship nomination‘ for detailed instructions and additional information. It describes the eligibility and evaluation criteria for election and provides an overview of the nomination portal.
