Science at the Shine Dome is the Australian Academy of Science’s flagship event. Australia’s science community gathers at the Shine Dome in Canberra to celebrate science and to honour outstanding achievements in science. It is also a valuable networking opportunity for Academy Fellows, early- and mid-career researchers, government representatives, politicians, media, science associated organisations, and the science-interested general public.
This year, Science at the Shine Dome will be a four-day event, held between Monday 9 and Thursday 12 September. Fellows elected in 2023 and 2024 and award recipients from 2023 and 2024 will all be recognised across the event. The event will also celebrate the Academy’s 70th anniversary.
The newest Academy Fellows from 2023 and 2024 will be formally admitted to the Australian Academy of Science on Monday and Tuesday. All are invited to join us to celebrate the significant achievements of the Academy’s new Fellows.
Each new Fellow will present their work and achievements. Details on new Fellows’ presentations will be available prior to the event.
The 2024 Gala Dinner will be held on Wednesday evening at the National Arboretum Canberra. The dinner is an opportunity to celebrate and network with representatives from across the science sector. Welcome remarks will be given by Her Excellency the Hon Ms Sam Mostyn AC, Governor-General of Australia, and the keynote speaker for the evening will be The Hon Ed Husic MP, Minister for Industry and Science.
At the gala dinner, the Academy’s most prestigious medals will be presented.
Each year, researchers receive highly sought-after honours for outstanding achievements in their scientific fields. These awardees will be presented with their medals and recognised for their work. Four premier awards lectures will be given by awardees from 2023 and 2024.
